MAJORCA | |||||||||
Tour: Open University, SXR208, Observing the Universe, staying at Hotel Horizonte, Palma.
Participants: 18 | |||||||||
Weather: Everything from some warm sunshine to very cool nights and a violent thunderstorm, accompanied by rain, hail and snow! .... "the worst weather we have had in six years of running these courses", according to one tutor!
Course Projects: Four projects from the following had to be selected for study in Majorca - my choices were 1,5,6 and 7. The projects requiring telescope work were completed as far as possible, although some nights we had to repeatedly shut down the domes for rain, and other nights we even had to play a hair drier on the telescope lenses to stop dew settling!! Project 1: Astronomical Spectroscopy Project 2: Colour-Magnitude Diagrams of Star Clusters Project 3: Stellar Photometry Project 4: Eclipsing Binary Star Project 5: Asteroid Light Curves Project 6: Classification of Chondrite Meteorites Project 7: Planetary Landing Site Selection A detailed report had to be prepared on one of these, and my selection was No.6, which has the closest link to geology. |
